Capturing system messages for later printout Downloading whole files to your system Downloading part of a .LBR file to your system Uploading files to this system Printing while on-line with remote system :Capturing system messages To capture the system messages or a list of the files on this system, you must use the XON-XOFF protocol. Be sure that you are set for 8 bit, no parity (use U) before switching to the XON-XOFF protocol. You should then open a file with the F command followed by a filename. If you want this file to be on drive b:, preceed the name with b: The command R opens the buffer. When you are finished saving material, W writes the buffer to a disk file. E will close the buffer and write any material remaining in the buffer to the disk file. :Downloading whole files to your system You MUST use modem protocol to download files from this system to your system. This is done with PM You must also tell this system which file you want. XMODEM is the program which sends files from this (or any remote) system to you. Note that on most FOG systems, you will not be able to download an entire library disk. The first step to downloading is to move to the section (drive and user area) where the file you are interested in is located. Additional details may be obtained by reading the XMODEM.HLP file (type HELP XMODEM at the prompt. If you wish to download an entire file, you start by typing: XMODEM S filename.typ at the A>. "filename.typ" should be the EXACT name of the file you want to download. XMODEM will check to see if it can find the file you want and then will compute the time to send you the file. If the sending time is more than 30 minutes, XMODEM will tell you that it cannot send you the file. If the sending time is less than 30 minutes, XMODEM will tell you how long it will take to send the file. At this point, you must tell AMCALL to receive the file. To tell your system to receive the file, enter: F AMCALL will respond by asking you for the filename. You may enter the same name or you may take this opportunity to change the name. If you wish to save the file to a disk in your B: drive, preceed the filename by the B:. For example: B:filename.typ Now you enter an R to tell AMCALL to receive the file. Sit back and wait until the transfer is completed and you again see this system's prompt. :Downloading part of a .LBR file to your system You MUST use modem protocol to download files from this system to your system. If you wish to download a single file which is contained within a .LBR file, you start by typing: XMODEM L lbrname filename.typ at the A>. The "lbrname" is the name of the .LBR file. The "filename.typ" should be the EXACT name of the file you want to download. If you are not sure of the correct filename, use the type command to view the contents of the .LBR file: TYPE filename.LBR For more details on this command read the FILES.HLP. You should first set your system to send the file with F and then enter the name of the file you wish to send. Remember, if the file is on a disk in your B: drive, you will have to preceed the filename with the drive designator. Next, tell this system to receive the file using checksum for error checking with XMODEM RC filename.typ Again, "filename.typ" is the name of the file you are sending. There is no need to tell this system where to put the file as it automatically puts it in the UPLOAD.PUB section. The final step is to tell your system to actually send the file with T Sit back and wait for the transfer to finish. :Printing while on-line with remote system If you have a centronics printer, it is possible to print the messages appearing on the screen as they appear rather than storing the information to a disk file. The major drawback to this is that many printers will print too slowly. Since this will slow the transmission, this can increase the phone costs. At any rate, to do it: You must use the ^P at the CP/M prompt to turn the printer on. Since anything which appears on the screen after this point will print, it is usually best to execute AMCALL and set up the UARTS and the protocol and dial the number before turning on the printer. Use Z to "Zip out of AMCALL" to the CP/M prompt. Type ^P and then AMCALL -Z to return to AMCALL exactly where you left off. If you finish printing and are not ready to exit from the remote system, then repeat the z, ^P, and AMCALL -z to turn off the printer. You may, of course, repeat these steps as many times as you wish.
