X.25
X.25 is the CCITT protocol for accessing, using, and receiving
output from an X.25 packet-switched network. These kinds of networks are
normally accesible through asynchronous modems, and an interface on the
PC is required. The solutions supported by WinView are as follows:

EICON Technology's OSI Gateway for OS/2

Eicon Technology's X.PAD (Packet Assembler/Disassembler) converts output
to asynchronous devices (like serial ports) into packets, and sends it off
to the X.25 network via the Eicon Technology Gateway. X.PAD performs the
same service for messages coming IN from the X.25 network. It disassembles
the packets, and converts them to the form required by WinView.

What this means for WinView:

Essentially, it provides the user with another means to access the
WinView appserver. Once the hardware is installed, and the drivers loaded,
the appserver is then capable of supporting up to 16 virtual connections
coming in (across an asynchronous line) from an X.25 network. Furthermore,
the method of connection is virtually invisible to the user, allowing all
of the functionality normally useable from a WinView host.
