Overview
--------

This application note discusses the use of the Backup Wiz
for OS/2 product (referred to as Backup Wiz) with the Citrix
WinView Application Server (referred to as WinView) product.
Backup Wiz is an OS/2 text-based tape backup utilitiy that allows
you to backup FAT and/or HPFS partitions from your hard disk to tape.
This product will allow you to backup and restore your local WinView
system or a NetWare server over a network. Allowing you to protect
your data and setups from problems such as hardware falure and the
like.

The intended audience for this document is a engineer who has
had hands on experience with WinView, NetWare, and the Backup Wiz
products.

The scenarios described in this document have been thoroughly
tested by Citrix and Citrix believes you should have no problems
using Backup Wiz with WinView if you follow carefully the information
and steps in this document. Other variations to the scenarios
described in this document may in fact work fine, however they
have not specifically been tested by Citrix. In order to maximize
your chance for success, you should use the specified revision
levels of all software products described in this document and
stay within the bounds of the features and functions described in
this document.

Please note that this application note document is a living
document and will be modified as new information and versions of
the software described herein become available. Make sure you
have the latest version of this document before you begin. The
latest version is always available in the Citrix Forum on
CompuServe.

Requirements
------------

To use Backup Wiz on a WinView application server you will need
to have the following:

     Software Requirements
          - Citrix WinView 2.2x or higher
          - Backup Wiz for OS/2 1.01s5 or higher by: PCX
          - Novell NetWare 3.11, 3.12 or 4.01 (If backing up Server)

     Hardware Requirements
          - WinView server
               > 486DX-25 CPU or larger
               > 12 meg memory or more
               > NetWare supported network adapter (For Server backup)
               > SCSI Adapter supported by Citrix WinView
               > SCSI Tape Drive(s) supported by Backup Wiz
          - NetWare file server (If backing up Server)

(Please note that if you have a Novell NetWare file Server(s) that you wish
to backup then the network equipment and software is of course needed. If
you are only want to backup the WinView server itself then you will not
need any of the network equipment.)

Configuration Notes
-------------------
The Backup Wiz should only be run by one user at a time to avoid
confusion with the tape drive. All though, if you have multiple tape drives,
it is possible to have multiple users. This, however, is not a common usage
in that backup procedures should be run by the system admin and no one else.

The WinView user running Backup Wiz should be of the Administrator class
in order to access all files and directories. Likewise, if backing up or
restoring to a Novell file server you should be using a Supervisor login.

Make sure all users are logged off of the WinView or Novell file server
that you intend to backup or restore to. If you do not, you may have users
with open files that will not get backed up or restored over. This will
cause your backup or restore to be invalid. Any backup procedure can not
access files that are open by another user on either WinView or Novell
file servers. On Novell file servers, you can set the times your users
can log in and out. You can use this to automaticly logout all users on
the system and keep them out for a particular time period durring the week.
On a WinView server, you can also restrict login times for users using the
CONFIG PROFILE utiltiy. However, it will not log out users that are logged
in all ready. To do that you will have to use the LOGOUT *.* command to
logout those users. A simple command file (*.CMD) can make the task simple
for you. Make sure you have a procedure for doing this to make sure all
users are logged off of both WinView and Novell file servers that you want
to backup or restore to. BE SURE TO EXEMPT THE WinView LOGIN USER AND THE
SUPERVISOR ON THE Novell file server!!!!!!! If you set them to log out
along with the rest you will not be able to get back in to do the backup!
These admin/supervisor login(s) should be the ONLY login(s) with this
privledge.

To backup Novell file server drives or volumes just login to the
WinView server as an Administrator. At that point login to the Novell
file server as a Supervisor. From there, map the volumes to drives so
that WinView can see and access the Novell file server drives. You can
then use Backup Wiz to backup and restore to the Novell file server by
backing up and restoring to those mapped Novell drives.

Backup Wiz can backup and restore to both FAT and HPFS partitions
on you hard disk. Keep in mind however that while FAT can be backed up
and restored to HPFS with no problem, the reverse is not always true.
HPFS has extended attributes and can long file names other than the
standard XXXXXXXX.YYY 8 and 3 format you find on FAT partitions. While
Backup Wiz will restore a HPFS backup to a FAT drive, you will loose
all extended attributes as well as any files that have long names. From
this viewpoint you might want to do everything HPFS or everything FAT
so as to avoid any problems. (Remember that if you install WinView on
a FAT partition you loose all the WinView Security benifits. These are
only avaliable on an HPFS partition.) If you go with HPFS you can also
make your Novell file server support HPFS by adding OS/2 namespace.
See your Novell manuals on how to do this.

When using HPFS, you have all the benifits of WinView security using
WinView's CONFIG ACCESS function. However, this information will NOT be
backed up when you backup your HPFS partition. To backup this information
so that you do not loose your security settings you must use BACKACL and
RESACL. To backup your security settings type:
        BACKACL c:\ c:\cdisk.acl /s /file /dir
This will save the security settings for all files "/file" in all directories
"/dir" in all subdirectories "/s" in the file "c:\cdisk.acl". You can
then just backup the "cdisk.acl" file as you would any other standard
file. You must do this for each HPFS drive that you have that you wish
to save the security settings for. Make sure that each file gets backed
up to tape along with the rest of the disk. Its recomended that the name
you use represent the name of the disk or directory that it is saving the
security attributes for. Such as "CDISK.ACL" holds the security settings
for the "C" disk drive, etc, etc. To restore this information use RESACL.
Simply type:
        RESACL c:\cdisk.acl c:
This will restore the WinView security settings to the restored copy. Make
sure you restore your data FIRST, and then run RESACL otherwise the restore
will remove the ACL settings on your files and directories. (NOTE: RESACL
will NOT restore the ACLs to any file that is currently open. You may find
that you have to boot off the WinView installation disks and ESC to a
command prompt to run the RESACL command. This way NO files will be
opened on the hard disk and all the ACLs will be able to restore. This
is particularly true with the WinView boot drive.)

For more information on BACKACL and RESACL see your WinView manuals and
readmes or type "BACKACL /?" or "RESACL /?" for the help.

Installation
------------

Installation of Backup Wiz is relativly straight forward. The first
part involves geting your tape drive(s) installed and working. If your
system all ready has a SCSI card being recognized by Citrix WinView and
a working tape drive off of it, you may skip this part. The second part
is the installation of Backup Wiz and its device drivers. Finaly, the
third part is a simple test to verify that Backup Wiz can see and use
the tape drive(s). After that point you can refer to the Backup Wiz
Manual as to the operation of Backup Wiz.

     SCSI Tape Drive installation:
     -----------------------------
(NOTE: PLEASE make sure you shut off ALL POWER to your system
before adding any cards, pluging in any cables, etc.
If you do not, your sure to damage something in your
                system.)

        1. Follow the installation instructions that come with your
SCSI card. Basicly if its an ISA card you'll have to
verify that the IRQ, PORT, and DMA settings are correct
for your system and do not confilict. If your board is
EISA all you'll have to do is plug it in and run your
EISA configuration disk to config it. If using an
EISA configuration, make sure to copy down all the
info about your card you can that the EISA config
gives you. Such as IRQ, PORT, and DMA settings.

        2. Durring WinView installation, if your SCSI card was in
the system the correct *.ADD file may already be on your
system and in your CONFIG.SYS. If however, it is not, or
you are adding the SCSI card after WinView installation
you will have to do this yourself. Locate the correct
*.ADD file for your SCSI adapter. If its an adapter
Citrix WinView directly supports you should find the
*.ADD file in the \OS2\DRIVERS directory on your WinView
boot drive. If it is not then you will have to get the
OS/2 *.ADD file from the manufacture of the SCSI adapter.
Many manufactures send the OS/2 *.ADD file for their
SCSI adapters along with the card, so be sure to check
the documentation and disks they have sent you. Once you
locate the correct *.ADD file, you must copy it into the
C:\OS2 directory, where C: is your WinView boot drive.
Then in your CONFIG.SYS you will have to add the lines:
                BASEDEV=youraddfile.ADD
                BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD
The end result should look somewhat like this in your
            COFNIG.SYS:
                BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
                BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
                BASEDEV=OS2DASD.DMD
                BASEDEV=youraddfile.ADD
                BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD

Keep in mind that depending on your configuration it may
be a little different. For example if you have a CD-ROM,
IDE hard drives, or a 2nd SCSI adapter. This is just a
general example. As long as your *.ADD driver is in the
list and "BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD" is in there somewhere you
            should be fine.

        3. Next to install your tape drive you will have to follow
the instructions that came with the tape drive on mounting
it in your system and powering it. To connect it to your
SCSI adapter you must first set your tape drive to a SCSI
ID that is not currently being used by any other device
on that SCSI adapter. See the instructions that came with
your tape drive for information on how to do this. It
should just be a simple jumper setting on the tape drive.
Usually tape drives are set for some SCSI ID between 2 and
            6. This leaves 0 and 1 free for SCSI hard disks, however
you can use these IDs as well usally if you have no hard
disks. If you have an older SCSI adapter you may have to
adjust the terminating resistors or the power to them on
both your SCSI card and tape drive. See your SCSI
installation instructions for information on this. Once
this is done your tape drive should be connnected to your
SCSI card via a SCSI bus cable. At this point your tape
drive should be connected. Boot up WinView and make sure
no errors or conflicts occur. If they do verify that you
have the correct *.ADD driver, everything is connected
properly, the SCSI ID for the tape drive is unique, and
that the PORT, IRQ, and DMA settings for your SCSI
            adapter are all unique.

     Backup Wiz Installation:
     ------------------------

        1. Boot up WinView and login as a user with an Administrator
            class.

        2. Follow the installation instructions in the Backup Wiz
Manual to install Backup Wiz. It should be as easy as
placing the floppy in the drive and running their
install program. Just follow the instructions both
on screen and in their install manual. When done,
Backup Wiz should be installed in to a directory
on the hard disk you specified durring Backup Wiz's
            installation.

        3. Look in the Backup Wiz directory on you hard disk and
look for the file BWOS2ADD.SYS. The is the Backup Wiz
SCSI device driver. Check you CONFIG.SYS to see if the
            following line has been added:
                DEVICE=C:\BACKWIZ\BWOS2ADD.SYS
Where "C:\BACKWIZ" is the directory that you installed
Backup Wiz to. If the above line is NOT in your CONFIG.SYS,
make sure to add it and save your CONFIG.SYS.

        4. Shutdown and reboot your WinView server. Watch the statements
load durring boot and verify that the Backup Wiz driver added
in step 3, loads without error. If it does not load, verify
that your statement is correct in the CONFIG.SYS and that the
device driver actualy exists in the Backup Wiz directory.

     Verify Backup Wiz Installation:
     -------------------------------

        1. To verify that Backup Wiz can see the tape drive, change into
the Backup Wiz directory and run BWS5.EXE.

        2. Select "Config" from the Backup Wiz menu and select "Configure"
from the submenu. This will run the Backup Wiz configuration
utility. Set the SCSI Tape Address for your tape drive,
(usualy "1"). Use the arrow keys to move down to the next
option this should cause the name of your tape drive to
appear in the upper right hand corner of the configuration
box. If it does not, then it is not "seeing" your tape
drive. Once it does hit F10 to keep the settings. It will
then ask you if you wish to save these settings. Answer
"Y" for yes and hit F10 again to save the BWS5.CFG configuration
            file.

        3. Place a blank tape in your tape drive. You can then select some
of the options such as erase, rewind, etc from the Utilities menu.
If Backup Wiz is seeing your tape drive, you should see/hear
your tape drive go into action erasing or rewinding your tape.
This verifies that Backup Wiz is able to see and use your tape
drive. If you have multiple tape drives try this for each.

Compatibility
-------------

There are no known hardware or software incompatibilities when using
Backup Wiz and WinView at this time. When selecting a hardware platform
for WinView and the SCSI adapter to use in WinView, make sure you choose
from the list of supported hardware devices in the "Citrix Compatibility
Guide".

Diagnosing Problems
-------------------

The only problems that could happen is in installing the SCSI adapter
and SCSI tape drive. These are the biggest problems. Actual installation,
configuration, and operation of Backup Wiz are usualy simple. If you have
problems with your hardware setup, be sure to check their installation
manuals. Make sure PORT, IRQ, and DMA settings are correct and do not
conflict with any other device. On your tape drive, verify that the SCSI
ID being used is unique.
