The following section applies to SoftPC as distributed
by DEC for ULTRIX (and perhaps for VMS) and possibly
for SoftPC as distributed by Insignia for other hosts.
The syntax rules for specifying the keymap file are
unclear and dependent on the DEC or Insignia flavor
of SoftPC and the version thereof.

Instructions for using the SoftPC fonts and keymaps
---------------------------------------------------

Please follow these steps, once you have unpacked the fonts and keymaps:

	mkdir /usr/lib/X11/ncd/fonts/softpc
	cp *.snf /usr/lib/X11/ncd/fonts/softpc
	cp fonts.dir /usr/lib/X11/ncd/fonts/softpc
	touch /usr/lib/X11/ncd/fonts/softpc/fonts.alias

At this point, the fonts will be in place. You will then need to modify the
default font path that the NCD uses. (We suggest modifying the config file for
the NCD to reflect this.)

Next, you must put the keymaps in place. Copy all the .key files to

	/usr/lib/SoftPC/term.at

and when you invoke SoftPC, specify the appropriate keymap as follows:

	/usr/lib/SoftPC/SoftPC keymap=<ncd_keymap_file_name>

=======================================================================

The following section applies to SoftPC V2.1 running under SunOS:

1. First, their 2.1 release came with keymap files for NCD keyboards.
They are in a separate tar archive on the tape which is
called NCD, and you'll have to tar it off the tape.

2. In the term directory, there are existing keymap files with names like
"type3" and "type4" (I do not know the exact name) with which the command line
options are used. What you must do is rename, so as to hide, the "type3"
keymap file. Next step explains why you are hiding it.

3. Then, in the tar archive for NCD support, you should find some keymap
files with names relative to our keyboards. You should find the keymap
file appropriate to your NCD keyboard, and, copy it to the term directory
but give it the name of the file which you just hid away (the type3 file).

4. Then, invoke SoftPC with the -type3 option and it should work.
